L&T: Why did you become a fashion designer?
Trina Turk: I wanted to become a fashion designer as soon as I learned how to sew when I was 11. Being an entrepreneur and designer allows me to combine all of my interests: pop cultural trends, the arts, architecture and design, color, and textiles.

Trina Turk: The biggest obstacles I’ve faced have been external market forces that we can’t control. We’ve weathered the slowdown after September 11thand the economic downturn of 2008. In order to be in this business, you have to be optimistic and forward looking! I don’t dwell much on obstacles.
